The Brazos Lofts are located in historic downtown Austin, Texas - in the heart of the entertainment district and around the corner from the business district.
History The Brazos Lofts were created from a set of buildings that occupied the north side of the 200 block of Fifth Street. These buildings were primarily built from the late 1910s to the mid 1930s. The previous tenants of these buildings were varied: Capitol Chevrolet, Yellow Cab Company, Austin Machine and Grinding Company, Cabaniss-Brown Furniture, Hi-Way Garage, Slim Darter Welding and Radiator Shop, Cutler's Motor Company, Bledsoe Furniture Company, Motor and Industrial Finance Company. The architectural style of the lofts reflects this utilitarian heritage.
This set of buildings was transformed into the Brazos Lofts by the Sutton Company in a project that was completed in 1999. Design work was performed by Dick Clark Architecture. The project included both re-purposing the existing structures and the construction of a completely new structure at the northeast corner.
